Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have heard about the recent corruption scandals involving some Indian political parties.

Show them some recent news articles about these scandals and ask them to reflect on what this means for the functioning of political parties in India.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the topic of political parties in India and their role in governing the country.
• Discuss the recent corruption scandals and their impact on the public perception of political parties in India.
• Explain the concept of the 5Es of writing (engaging, explanatory, evocative, and encapsulating) and how these can be used to effectively communicate ideas in writing.
• Use the handouts with the students to model how to write an essay using the 5Es.

Direct Instruction

• Have the students practice writing essays using the 5Es on a different topic of their choice.
• Bring in a worksheet with sample essays written using the 5Es and have the students evaluate the effectiveness of the writing.

Independent Learning
