Topic: Work Skills

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify and demonstrate a range of relevant work skills, such as time management, teamwork, and communication.

Materials

• Handout with a list of work skills (time management, teamwork, communication, etc.)
• Examples of how these work skills can be demonstrated (e.g. worksheet with activities for each skill)
• Access to a computer with internet for the worksheet

Warm-up

• Ask students to share a time when they demonstrated a work skill in a job or at school. E.g. "Share a time when you showed good communication with your team at work."

-Write their responses on the board.

• Ask students to think of a time when they didn't demonstrate a work skill in a job or at school. E.g. "Share a time when you lacked communication with your team at work." -Write their responses on the board.
• Review the responses on the board and ask students to share any additional examples they can think of.

Direct Instruction

• Define work skills and explain why they are important in the workplace.
• Use the handouts to provide examples of work skills and their definitions.
• Have students work in pairs or small groups to identify at least three work skills that are important in the workplace.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs or small groups to discuss the work skills they identified and why they are important in the workplace.
• Have each group present their work skills to the class and explain their choices.
• As a class, discuss why each work skill is important in the workplace.

Independent Practice

• Have students choose one work skill from the list to research and create a poster about.
• Students should include information about the skill, why it is important in the workplace, and an example of how it can be used.
• Have students present their posters to the class.

Closure

• Review the importance of work skills in the workplace.
• Have students share any new insights they gained about work skills during the lesson.

Assessment

• Observe students during the group presentation and completion of the projective assessment to assess their understanding of the importance of work skills in the workplace.
