Topic: Digital Creativity: skill sets and applications in the digital age

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will understand the concept of digital creativity and its applications in the digital age.
• Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to use digital tools and technologies to create innovative and original content or solutions to problems.

Materials:

• Computers with access to the internet and relevant digital tools and technologies (e.g. image editing software, video editing software, web design software)
• Assignment materials (e.g. example projects, prompts for creativity)

Warm-up

• Begin the lesson by showing a variety of examples of digital creativity (e.g. an image or video that was created using digital tools and technologies, a website that was created using web design software, a piece of digital art).
• Ask the students to observe the examples and think about what makes them creative or innovative.
• Ask the students to share their observations with the class.

Direct Instruction

• Define digital creativity and explain what it means to be creative or innovative using digital tools and technologies.
• Provide examples of digital tools and technologies that can be used for creativity (e.g. Photoshop, 3D modeling software, video editing software, web design software).
• Explain the importance of planning and ideation in the creative process.
• Show examples of digital creativity and discuss the planning and ideation process behind them.

Guided Practice

• Have students work in pairs to complete a creative project using digital tools and technologies (e.g. design a video game, create a custom web page, create a digital artwork).
• Have students present their final projects to the class and discuss the planning and ideation process behind them.

Independent Practice

• Have students work on a series of creative projects using digital tools and technologies (e.g. design a video game, create a custom web page, create a digital artwork).
• Encourage students to be creative and think outside the box as they work on their projects.

Closure

• Have students share their digital creations with the class.
• Have a class discussion about the different types of digital creations that were created and the various digital tools and technologies that were used.

Assessment

• Use the presentations and class discussion as a form of assessment to gauge student understanding of the importance of digital creativity, the various digital tools and technologies that can be used for digital creativity, and the digital creativity skills needed to create innovative and original digital creations.
