Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to describe what they think the world will be like in 100 years time.

Materials

  • Pictures of different types of buildings, transport and other aspects of life in the present day
  • Whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

  • Show the students the pictures of different aspects of life in the present day and ask them to describe what they see. Write their answers on the whiteboard.
  • Next, ask the students to take turns to share their ideas about what the world will be like in 100 years time. Encourage them to use descriptive words and details in their responses.

Direct Instruction

  • Review the descriptions of the present-day and future world that the students wrote on the whiteboard. Ask them to share their ideas and ask them to explain why they think the world will be like that in 100 years time.
  • Use the pictures of the future to illustrate the students' ideas.

Guided Practice:

  • Ask the students to work in pairs and help them draw or paint a picture of the future world that they have imagined.
  • Walk around and offer guidance and support as needed.

Independent Practice:

  • Ask the students to choose one aspect of their picture (e.g. the clothing, the buildings, the animals) and write a short paragraph describing how it will be different in 100 years time.

Closure:

  • Ask the students to share their paragraphs with the class and discuss the different ways in which the world will change over the next 100 years.

Assessment:

  • Observe the students during independent practice and provide feedback on their understanding of the future and their ability to write about it.
