Topic: Nouns

Objectives & Outcome:

  • Students will be able to identify nouns as people, places, or things in a story.

Materials:

  • Pictures from a familiar story
  • Flashcards with different types of nouns (people, places, things)

Warm-up

  • Ask students if they can name some people, places, and things that they have seen in their everyday life.
  • Write their responses on the board.
  • Ask students if they can name any different types of nouns they have mentioned, and write their responses on the board as well.

Direct Instruction

  • Review the definitions of people, places, and things as nouns.
  • Write the definitions on the board and have students repeat them after you.
  • Show students some pictures of people, places, and things and have them identify which type of noun each is.
  • Have students work in pairs to identify the nouns in the pictures and write them on the board.

Guided Practice

  • Show students another set of pictures and have them work in pairs to identify the nouns and write them on the board.
  • Have a few pairs share their pictures and answers with the class.

Independent Practice

  • Have students work in groups to create their own set of pictures with nouns.
  • Encourage them to be creative and use their imaginations.
  • Have each group share their pictures with the class and explain the nouns.

Closure

  • Review the different types of nouns and the definitions.
  • Ask students to provide examples of nouns for each category.
  • Remind them that nouns are important for communicating ideas.

Assessment

  • Observe students during the independent practice activity to assess their understanding of nouns.
  • Collect and review their drawings as a form of assessment.
