Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to research and learn about world record holders and athletes who have made a difference in our world.
  • Students will be able to share their findings with others by creating a presentation or poster.

Materials

  • Computers with internet access
  • Printing or copying facilities
  • Construction paper or poster board

Warm-up

  • Have the students take out a piece of paper and a pen.
  • Ask them to write down the names of 5 athletes or sports teams that they are familiar with.
  • Once they are finished, have them turn their papers over and on the back, write down the name of a world record holder or athlete who has made a difference in our world.
  • Have the students respond to the following prompt: "Why is it important to know about record-setting athletes and record holders? How do they inspire us to be better or reach our full potential?"

  • Show the students the list of names they wrote down and ask them to share their reasons for choosing those athletes or sports teams.
