Objectives & Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify different colours, body parts and numbers up to 10.

Materials

  • Coloured drawing paper and pencils
  • White paper and markers
  • Sticky labels
  • Small paper plates and scissors
  • Pirate cut-out
  • Colour sheets with pirate pictures

Warm-up

  • Show the students the pirate cut-out and ask them to identify the different body parts. (e.g.head, eye, hand, etc.)
  • Ask the students to stand up and stretch their arms out to the sides and then to touch their nose with their fingers.

Direct Instruction

  • Introduce the word "pirate" and show the students the picture of a pirate.
  • Ask the students to name the different colours on the pirate cut-out.
  • Count to 10 with the students and have them repeat the numbers after you.

Guided Practice

  • Show the students the pirate craft supplies and ask them to work with a helper to colour the pirate cut-outs.
  • Have the students use the glue to attach the pirate accessories to the cut-outs.
  • Place the finished pirates on a table for all to see.

Independent Practice

  • Have the students work in small groups to create their own pirate story.
  • Encourage the students to use the pirate vocabulary words and the pirate gestures they have learned to add to their story.
  • Have the students present their pirate stories to the class.

Closure

  • Review the pirate gestures and vocabulary words with the students.
  • Ask the students to share something they enjoyed about the Pirate Party.

Assessment

  • Observe the students during the independent practice activity to see if they are able to use the pirate gestures and vocabulary words correctly.
  • Collect the students' drawings and write a brief paragraph describing their understanding of the different body parts.
