Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

• Writing paper
• Pencils
• Envelopes
• Letter templates
• Mailing labels (optional)

Warm-up

• Students will have a quick discussion about what a letter is and what it is used for.
• Ask students to share any previous experience they have had with writing and mailing letters.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of the special letter, which is a letter intended to be sent to someone special or someone who is far away.
• Discuss the process of writing a letter, including brainstorming ideas, gathering supplies, and writing the letter itself.
• Explain how a letter is sent through the mail and how it is delivered to the recipient.

Guided Practice

• With the help, if necessary, of the teacher, have students begin to brainstorm ideas for their special letters.
• Have them gather the supplies they need to write their letters, including paper and writing utensils.
