Objectives & Outcomes

Materials

• Beanbags or balls
• Tracking sheets for students to practice writing their names

Warm-up

• Review the alphabet
• Model how to trace each letter with a beanbag or ball
• Have students trace the letters with the beanbag or ball

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of using the hands to play with a ball correctly
• Demonstrate how to hold the ball and how to throw it
• Show the students how to catch the ball and how to cradle it when it is falling
• Have the students practice these skills with the beanbags or balls

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups
• Have each group take turns with the ball, following the instructions from the teacher
• Ask the students to show the teacher how they are holding and throwing the ball correctly
• Help the students to catch and cradle the ball correctly

Independent Practice

• Have each student choose a beanbag to use for the activity
• Have the students use the beanbags to play a game with the balls, following the instructions from the teacher
• Encourage the students to use their hands correctly as they catch, cradle, and throw the balls
• Ask the students to show the teacher how they are holding and throwing the ball correctly

Closure

• Review the importance of using our hands correctly when playing with balls
• Ask the students to share something they learned about using their hands correctly when playing with balls

Assessment

• Observe the students during the guided and independent practice to see if they are able to use their hands correctly when playing with balls.
• Collect the students' work and review to assess their understanding of the concept.
