Topic: My family

Objectives & Outcomes

• Students will be able to list the different family members and describe their roles in the family.

Materials

• Pictures of different family members (e.g. parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins)
• Cardboard cutouts or pictures of different household objects (e.g. fridge, microwave, television, bed, chair)
• Glue sticks and paper for independent practice activity

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have a family. What are the different members of their family?
• Show students the pictures of different family members and ask them to identify who the people are.
• Ask students to volunteer and demonstrate how they use different household objects in their daily life.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of family and explain that a family is a group of people who live together and care for each other.
• Show students the pictures of different family members and ask them to identify who the people are.
• Ask students to volunteer and demonstrate how they use different household objects in their daily life.

Guided Practice

• Divide students into small groups and give each group a set of household objects.
• Have students work together to come up with a story about a family using the objects in the way they have been shown.
• Encourage creativity and ask students to share their stories with the class.

Independent Practice

• Give students a sheet with a list of family members.
• Have students identify the family members listed on the sheet and draw a picture of themselves with the identified family member.

Closure

• Review the names of the different family members and ask students to share their drawings with the class.
• Ask students to share something they like about each family member.

Assessment

• Observe students during independent practice to ensure that they are accurately drawing their family members and accurately naming them.
• Evaluate students' spoken explanations during the guided practice and independent practice activities to assess their understanding of family members.
