Topic: How to make a lemonade

Objectives & Outcomes

• By the end of this activity, the children will be able to understand the process of making a lemonade and be able to apply the knowledge to make their own lemonade juice.

Materials

• Fresh lemons
• Ice cubes
• Water
• Granulated sugar
• Jello cups or small cups
• Spoons

Warm-up

• Show the children a lemon and ask them if they have seen one before. Ask them to describe what it looks like and how it tastes.
• Ask the children if they have ever had lemonade before and if so, where did they have it and what did it taste like.

Direct Instruction

• Explain to the children that they are going to make lemonade using real lemons.
• Show the children how to squeeze the lemons to get the juice out.
• Explain that the lemon juice needs to be mixed with water and sugar to make lemonade.
• Demonstrate how to mix the ingredients together in a pitcher or bowl.

Guided Practice

• Have the children work with a partner to help them squeeze the lemons and mix the ingredients together.
• Monitor the children closely to make sure they are following directions and mixing the ingredients correctly.

Independent Practice

• Have the children pour the lemonade mixture into glasses and add some ice cubes.
• Have the children decorate their lemonade glasses with fruit slices and serve to their friends.

Closure

• Encourage the children to try the lemonade and give their feedback.
• Ask the children to share what they learned about making lemonade today.

Assessment

• Observe the children as they work to make their own lemonade and give them feedback.
• Listen to the children as they share their thoughts about the lesson and what they learned.
