Topic: Autumn

Objectives: & Outcomes

• Students will be able to identify different types of leaves and describe their characteristics.

Materials

• Pictures of different types of leaves (e.g. oak, maple, birch)
• Pencils and paper for each student

Warm-up

• Ask students if they have ever seen different types of leaves before. Ask them to name some of the types of leaves they have seen.
• Display the pictures of different types of leaves and ask students to identify which leaf is shown in each picture.

Direct Instruction

• Introduce the concept of different types of leaves and the different colors and shapes they can be.
• Display the pictures of different types of leaves and discuss the characteristics of each type, such as the shape, size, and color.
• Discuss the season of autumn and its corresponding colors: orange, red, and yellow.

Guided Practice

• Divide the students into small groups and give each group a set of autumn leaves to examine closely.
• Have the students take turns identifying the different characteristics of the leaves, such as the shape, size, and color.
• Encourage the students to use descriptive words to talk about the leaves.

Independent Practice

• Have the students create a collage using their collection of autumn leaves.
• Encourage the students to use their descriptive words from the guided practice activity to label their collage.

Closure

• Have the students share their collage with the class and describe each picture.
• Review the words learned in the guided practice activity.

Assessment

• Observe the students during the independent practice activity and provide feedback on their use of adjective and noun pairs.
• Collect and review the collages to assess the students' understanding of the word pairs and their ability to apply them in a creative context.
